Case Studies
ITV London Studios, 2009
The installation was completed on time to an agreed programme ready for the incoming production. The refurbishment involved the stripping and disposal of the old sheet flooring. The high performance flat surface demanded by camera pedestals. A static dissipative finish was necessary for comfort and ease of use.
BBC Northern Ireland, 2011
The old floor was removed and disposed of by Elgood Flooring. The selected product was the Elgood Universal Television Studio Floor System. Working directly with the BBC ensured that the BBC were able to choose our floor system. Elgood Flooring project managed installation from initial survey through to completion.
BSKYB & Sky Sports News, 2011
BSKYB called upon Elgood Flooring's extensive experience for their new Harlequin 1 groundbreaking Headquarters.
We acted as an independent consultant and surveyed the sub floor for suitability. We were also asked to advise on installation and programme.
To retain control of the choice of flooring and to ensure that the studio floor met BSKYB rigorous high standard the Studio Flooring element was excluded from the Design and Build Package.
The Studio Flooring was and should be seen as an integral part of the final technical fit out. This approach is now being adopted as standard.
QVC New Broadcasting Head Quarters at Chiswick Park London, 2012
QVC inherited floors laid by Elgood Flooring over twenty years ago when they moved into the BSB building Marco Polo House in London. The floors have performed successfully and have required nil maintenance. The floors will continue to be used until the switchover to the new complex is complete in June 2012.
This outstanding track record and Elgood Flooring's extensive experience recommended Elgood flooring to QVC and enabled us to win the contract for QVC's Chiswick Park Complex.
Elgood Flooring liaised with QVC for over a year prior to the installation of the floor. QVC removed the Studio Flooring from the Main Contractor's Package of Works to retain control of the choice of flooring.
Television Studio Flooring is an integral part of the final technical fit out and should not be undertaken as part of the general Design and Build.
This approach has been adopted by others including Sky.
Refurbishment For Eastenders, 2009
After 22+ years of constant use for Eastenders sets, BBC looked to renew the operating surface of the floor which was showing signs of wear and tear. The success and long term performance of Television Studio floor installations for the BBC throughout the UK.
National Lottery Birthday Refurbishment, 2009
The refurbishment involved the stripping and disposal of the old sheet flooring. The high performance flat surface demanded by camera pedestals. A static dissipative finish was necessary for comfort and ease of use.
Coronation Street Studios, Manchester
Granada Television required a studio floor with no inclines which might produce unwanted camera movement from a stationary position. The studio floor was to have no surface imperfections which might disrupt smooth camera movement (i.e. shudders or jolts that are magnified by the pedestal) when tracking across the floor.
To reduce nuisance static electricity, the Elgood Static Dissipative finish was applied. This finish has an electrical safety resistivity in the range of 104 to 1010 ohms. The static dissipative finish has a conductive layer that is over laid with the operating surface.
BBC Scotland Pacific Quay, 2007
he floor had to meet the strict demands of the BBC for camera tracking purposes and had to pass their three stage camera pedestal test prior to hand over.
To avoid nuisance static electricity, the studio floor system includes our Static Dissipative Finish which has been successful in other BBC and Independent Studios.
LWT, London, 2004
The existing floor had proved a success and had been in production constantly from the day it was laid. The operating surface had become damaged in places and although still performing well, it was decided that the floor would benefit from a general refurbishment. The refurbishment involved stripping the existing operating surface and laying the new reinforced Elgood Television Studio Finish. Requirements in addition to the high performance smooth floor necessary for camera tracking, were the reinstatement of the fire lanes and Camera Grid numeral references.
New Hospital Project; Television, Music, Arts Centre, 2003
A polymer concrete that had a surface with rashes of pin sized holes. Approx 200 square metres. The work was carried out in normal working hours whilst other works continued on the site.
BBC TC8 Television Studio, 2003
BBC Required a level high performance television studio floor to meet their exacting camera tracking specification. The work was carried out in normal working hours whilst broadcasting continued in adjacent studios.
BBC TC6, White City, London, 2002
TC6 one of the busiest studios at the BBC (650 sq m) required an overhaul of the operating floor. The BBC set their own demanding camera tracking requirements. These had to be met through a day of rigorous camera tests. The new level studio floor passed the tests.
In addition to the camera tracking approved studio floor, the BBC needed a static dissipative finish, a contrasting colour for the fire lanes and numerals. For more information on this type of flooring, please look at our television studio floor page.
